Classification of LED Display

There are many ways to classify the LED displays, we generally classify them in the following ways:

(1) Divided into indoor, outdoor and semi-outdoor according to the application environment:

Indoor display size is generally from less than 1 square meter to more than ten square meters. The dot density is high, indoor screen is used in non-direct sunlight or lighting environments, the viewing distance is a few meters away, the cabinet doesn’t have seal and waterproof abilities.

Outdoor display size is generally from a few square meters to dozens or even hundreds of square meters. The dot density is sparse, brightness is high, some high-brightness displays can be used in direct sunlight, the viewing distance is several decades away,  the cabinet has good windproof, waterproof and lightning protection abilities.

Semi-outdoor display is between outdoor display and indoor display. It has higher brightness than indoor display, can be used in non-direct sunlight outdoor environment, the cabinet has a certain seal ability, usually installed under the eaves or in the windows.

(2) Divided into monochrome, two-color, three-color (full color) by color:

Monochrome refers to the display which has only one color of light-emitting materials, mostly is single red.

Two-color display generally consists of red and green luminescent materials.

Three-color display consists of red, green and blue.

(3) Divided into synchronous and asynchronous display by control or usage way:

Synchronous system display is a LED display which displays the contents of the display screen’s and the computer monitor’s at the same time, the images of the computer and the LED screen are totally same. The LED screen can’t be offline in synchronous mode, if the screen is not connected to a computer, the LED screen will not play the images.

Asynchronous system display refers to the display which has storage and auto-play abilities. We edit the data on computer, transfer them into LED display through serial port or other network interface, and store the data in the LED display control system, then played automatically by the LED display offline. It won’t affect the normal display of the LED screen if the LED display is not connected to the computer or the computer is turned off. It supports multi-screen network.

(4)  Classified by pixel density or pixel diameter:    

Common indoor LED display have: P2.5, P2.97, P3, P3.91, P4, P5, P6, P6.25, P6.67, P7.62, P10...  

Common outdoor LED display have: P5, P6, P6.67, P8, P10, P16...  

(5) Classified by display performance:

Video LED displays: usually are full color display.

Text LED displays: usually are monochrome display.

Graphic displays: usually are two-color display.
